Doing it Right – But Still Something Lingers

Don’t you ever get sick of doing all the right things and then you’re still stuck with an issue you can’t resolve?

You eat right, you cut out certain foods, maybe even some of your favourites, you cut out caffeine, alcohol, maybe quit smoking or other toxic habits.

Healthy Food

You research and read and explore till you’re sure you’ve got all the information you can find on what is afflicting you and you walk the walk – ok, maybe you cheat a little bit here and there, but for the most part, you’re darn good at being healthy. You stay active and say mantras, mediate or participate in prayer.

Frustrated man

So why, then, is there still that lingering thing?

I was there 11 years ago when I was sick with Lyme, and I find I’m there again now, but with a different – and thankfully much less severe – health issue.

Back then, I was into all kinds of New Age stuff, yoga, Reiki, veganism (I cooked a lot of vegan dishes although I still ate seafood), reflexology (which I still do) – I was a patient and I was a practitioner. I found the solution to my illness then, the nano-detox method, which should really be renamed the Synthetic Biology Detox/Purge, or something along those lines.

Knowing that I made it through something as serious as that keeps me going now, but it’s still exhausting.

Here’s an example…

I’d spoken to a variety of doctors already regarding uterine fibroids. I got lots of help online as well, including from some of my readers – thank-you! And I’m employing some of those right now. However, it seems like for me, the issue is at a point where they just need to be taken out; it’s gotten that far.

So then I had a consultation with a herbalist who helped another woman who I know with her uterine fibroids. She was able to shrink the fibroids and avoid surgery.

Herbalist

I really liked the herbalist. She had a great vibe, seemed to have extensive knowledge in health, both allopathic and natural, and she laid out many tasks for me to do to turn my health around. But, that was the problem… I’ve been through so much, trying out a variety of things, was in major pain and so exhausted by it all that I was ready to have surgery.

Nerves in back

There was one breakthrough, though…

While I was being assessed by a gynaecologist, I mentioned some nerve pain we discussed how there may be more than just the fibroids going on. She said, “You should see my husband next door. He’s a doctor, too, but in physiotherapy and nerve-related issues.” So I went next door and the doc discovered that I had two pinched nerves in my back. He gave me some exercises to do and after a few days, my pain went way down.

What a relief! I’m not craving surgery to the same degree, yet the number of tasks on the herbalist’s list is still daunting. I find myself eating all the things I shouldn’t just to get ready for the day when I’m ready to quit them all and embrace her protocol – sounds silly, I know – because I’m sure the protocol will help.

Shoulding Yourself

Do you do that too?

Do you should yourself when you break your own rules? Do you punish yourself for eating chocolate or having a glass of wine when you know you shouldn’t?

I recall in my kundalini yoga teacher training back in 2010 my teachers telling us not to should ourselves. “If you’re avoiding peanut-butter and chocolate ice-cream and one day you want to have a bowl, then just eat that bowl of peanut-butter and chocolate ice-cream, enjoy it, and move on with your life. Now don’t keep doing it, but just do it, don’t feel guilty about it, and then put it away.”

Right now, I’m eating that proverbial peanut-butter and chocolate ice-cream (actually, I prefer chocolate chip mint or cookie dough ice-cream… mmmm) while I weigh my options.

How about you? Where are you at?
